Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 28th September, Small Haven School invited parents and carers to join us for a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Hosted by our new 6th Form class, we had fun games and lots of tasty snacks to choose from, ranging from cakes to cheese sticks to sausage rolls! We had a fantastic turn out and raised a whopping £300, including a donation from the school. Thank you once again for your ongoing support.
Student Council Elections
First term marked our famous Student Council Elections for 2018/19! We would like to congratulate our successful candidates, and after a fantastic first Student Council meeting, we are excited for your ideas in the future. Thank you Councillor Albert, Councillor Meliesa, Councillor Jessy, Councillor Charlie, Councillor Cameron and Councillor Niamh. You can find the minutes of our meetings over at the ‘Student Council’ section of the website.
Halloween
On the last day of term 1, we celebrated Halloween in style. Students and staff came in dressed as the usual ghouls, witches and monsters and everyone looked fantastic! The afternoon was filled with fun spooky games and trick or treating!
Children in Need Fundraising
Thank you parents and carers for helping our students raise £200 for Children in Need on 16th November! The students thought up and organised their own fundraising events within the school including car washing, car racing, a bake sale, and other games.
Awarded from the Kent Deaf Children’s Society to Jessy for ‘Overcoming Adversity and Obstacles’
The award is in recognition of a deaf child or young person between the ages of 5 and 19 years, who has persevered through challenges in their life; maybe illness, personal tragedy or circumstances beyond their control, showing courage and determination against great odds. Well done Jessy, we are so proud of you!
Learning about Hanukkah
Helene visited our school to deliver an assembly and spend time in classes teaching students and staff about the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. Students played Dreidel, a traditional Hanukkah game played in Jewish homes all over the world. The students really enjoyed the visit and especially liked winning chocolate coins in Dreidel! Thank you Helene for taking the time to visit us.
Disney’s Lab visit
In December, Disney class visited Discovery Park for a science filled morning. The pupils experienced fascinating experiments, looking at DNA research. Thank you to the wonderful Scientists for opening your doors to us.
Christmas Festivities
On Tuesday 18th December, the school gathered at The Corner for our Christmas Show. We had a fantastic turn out from families, and the students performed spectacularly. A big well done to students and staff! Our Sixth Form cooked their own Christmas dinner to celebrate. Thank you for celebrating Christmas with us.
