Lower School

We have two classes in Lower School at Small Haven - Disney and Christou.

Disney Class

Lower School - Disney Class

"All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them".

Welcome to lower school Disney class! Named after the inspirational Walt Disney. Our aim is to spark a love of learning in the children and to learn through inquiry and discovery, and further explore their creative abilities and imagination.

Our teacher is Mrs Gunn and our TA is Ki and we have 4 boys in our class this year. We aim to give the children the best start on their Small Haven School journey, equipping them with the confidence and skills they will need to succeed, not only in school but in their everyday life.

In our class this year we are going to focus on:

  • Settling into school life
  • Building our reading and writing skills
  • Improving our spelling
  • Practising key maths skills
  • Working towards our individual targets
  • Handling our emotions
  • Developing a positive mindset
  • Participating in outdoor learning through play, including forest school
  • Making friends and having fun!

Christou Class

Lower School - Christou Class

"Don't judge a book by its cover, it's what's on the inside that counts…”

Named after Nikki Christou, winner of ‘Child of Courage Award 2016,’ we are a class that celebrates diversity and promotes courage in overcoming challenges.

As the upper class in lower school, we continue to develop a love of learning through fun and engaging lessons whilst also preparing pupils for secondary education. Children are encouraged to discover their skills and interests and we shine a light on their achievements to promote a positive self-image as learners and individuals.

Essential learning and skills are further embedded and developed through a multi-sensory approach alongside a comprehensive social and emotional development curriculum.

Our teacher is Mrs Oliver and our TAs are Natasha & Caroline.
