Ofsted Rated Good School

Upper School

We have three classes in Upper School at Small Haven – Keller, Turing and Rowling.

Keller Class

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence”.

Keller Class is located within the Middle School at Small Haven. Named after the inspirational Helen Keller, who overcame significant sensory challenges to succeed in her learning and development, this class promotes a ‘can do’ attitude to both academic and social challenges.

We actively use the Growth Mindset philosophy to think more positively about areas we may find difficult in our learning and are supportive and caring towards one another. We like to have fun and work together to create fun and interesting learning experiences that we can all enjoy.

Keller class teacher is Mrs Tolfree supported by our TA’s Kyle, Kim & Cristina.

Turing Class

Upper School - Rowling Class

“We don’t need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already, we have the power to imagine better”.

Alan Turing was a British mathematician and logician, a major contributor to mathematics, cryptanalysis, computer science, and artificial life. He was highly influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of algorithm and computation.

Our key focus is raising aspirations, empowering to increase confidence and enabling students to reach their individual full potential. Offering a balanced and relevant curriculum with a range of qualifications. We place a great emphasis on Maths and English which are delivered daily as they underpin all other subjects and are key to developing core life skills.

KS4 is about preparing students for life, work and further education. This is achieved through stretch and challenge for academic attainment and personal growth, encouraging independence and responsibility, undertaking work experience, as well as spiritual, moral, social, cultural and physical development.

Overall we take a holistic approach, value teamwork and provide an individualised learning experience. Mr Duffy teaches Turing class supported by TA Sally

Attenborough Class

Upper School - Attenborough Class

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself…”

Attenborough Class is named after the inspirational Sir David Attenborough. There are lots of reasons why Sir David is such an inspiration to us, but one of the main reasons is that Sir David has done more than almost any other person to help millions of us understand and appreciate the wonders of the world around us.

Attenborough Class is a small class taught by Mr Duffy and supported by TA Sally.

As a class, we chose the following 7 values that our class is built on: Determination, Creativity, Kindness, Openness, Adventure, Compassion & Fun.
