Mick and Marissa are extremely proud to be the founders of this very special, small school which opened its doors to its first student in 2005. They are passionate and committed to providing their staff and students with a lovely, safe and stimulating environment with which to work in.

Mick and Marissa are actively involved in the day to day running of the school and over the years have made many significant improvements. Especially to the school premises, and to the academic delivery of an array of exciting and stimulating lessons, which now include GCSE English and Maths, and a Sixth Form.

The students are at the heart of the school, and their emotional wellbeing, happiness and education are at the forefront of what drives the school forward. Mick and Marissa have high aspirations for every student and have the belief that if you invest in each and every child, they will eventually invest in themselves and will become the best they can be. As such the Directors have overall responsibility for governing the school to ensure high quality provision for all of its students.

For the most part, what you will find when you visit the school, is a happy, calm, productive learning environment. Where there is a large team of caring, highly trained, dedicated, enthusiastic and empathic staff, ready to greet you with a warm welcome.

The directors would like to thank all of the parents & carers who are associated with the school, and recognise that they could not have achieved the results that they have, without their ongoing support.

The governing body has three main roles:

Small Haven Governing body

Strategic

The Directors set the general direction of the school, looking at how it should best develop and improve. This is done by reviewing and agreeing policies, setting targets and priorities and monitoring and reviewing aims and objectives.

Strategic thinking is not always linked with the curriculum and it does not mean just responding to weakness. A good example of this, is the new addition of the sixth Form which the Directors were both actively instrumental in.

Critical Friend

The Director of Education works closely with the Principal Head to create a clear understanding of the challenges faced in managing a small independent SEN school.

The Directors feel confident and able to question and challenge. Various professionals are also commissioned to assist with the questioning and challenge of the SLT, from an external point of view.

Accountability

The school is a business and its stakeholders are the learners. The Directors have a professional attitude and use their collective knowledge and skills to benefit the learners. They gather views, ask questions and decide what is best for the school and the children.

The Directors are answerable to the parents, placing authorities and the wider community.
