Police Visit

Small Haven’s British Value of this term was Rule of Law, so we had a policeman kindly visit us. Students got to ask him lots of questions and were shown the things he uses at work, such as his hand cuffs and police car. Students really enjoyed the visit and learnt a lot!

National Storytelling Week

For National Storytelling Week, classes were challenged by Mrs Tolfree to come up with their own story based on a Hindu tale.

They were shown the first part of ‘Lakshmi and the Clever Washerwoman’, and then had to work together to plan and create their own second part of the story. We certainly have some very talented storytellers and the children enjoyed being given the opportunity to explore their own ideas about the fate of the washerwoman.

First Aid Training

As part of the school’s Learning for Life curriculum, students took part in first aid training sessions. They learnt invaluable life skills, such as how to bandage a person if they were hurt and how to perform CPR.

Internships

Our Sixth Form student Charlie started his internship this term at Quex Park. He has been working really hard and taking the goats on lots of walks! Lottie has also continued her internship at Academy FM, even speaking on the radio sometimes!

We are so pleased with how well they are both doing.

Careers

As well as having our Police and First Aid visit support students’ education on different careers, we had our Careers Advisor from Education Business Partnerships visit a number of our students in year 9 and upwards, with the remainder of students in these years being seen next term. These 1:1 sessions allow students to think about their interests and strengths, and receive information and advice on further education and jobs that are out there that link to these.

Multicultural Day

This term’s Multicultural Day focused on Nepal. Students took part in activities in their Key Stage groups, which included looking at their flag, language, fun facts and their art technique batik. Students also learnt about the Yeti, and tried to decide whether they thought it is real or not!
