Art Exhibition

Term-3 Art Exhibition

This term, we held our annual Small Haven School Art Exhibition at King Street Gallery Margate. Our Sixth Form student Lynn, who is currently completing their Arts Award Gold qualification, did a fantastic job of organising and setting up the exhibition. Lynn also helped some students create their artwork during lesson. The theme of the artwork was ‘Emotions’ to link in with Children’s Mental Health Week. Students, staff and parents visited the exhibition to see the artwork during a series of school trips. A big well done to everyone!

Careers Workshops

Students really enjoyed their careers workshops with East Kent Business Partnership this term. Alec and Janice delivered a series of workshops designed to help students learn fundamental skills for employment and future life, such as teamwork, mental focusing, resilience and communication skills. EBP also deliver our careers guidance and work experience for our older students so it’s a fantastic addition to students’ careers education.

First Aid Training

We had some brilliant first aid training for students this term from Andy. Vital life skills that students learnt included primary survey, call/push/rescue, recovery position, choking, DEFIB, and bandaging.

Inclusive Games

This term’s Inclusive Games sport was boccia and kurling. As always, students were fantastic representatives of the school, gave it their all and made us proud.

Science Trip

Middle and Upper School students attended a great Discovery Planet Science session this term, where they learnt all about the heart and how it works.

Term-3 A day in history

A Day in History

Since the year 2010, it has become a tradition that Student Counsellors have requested a golden toilet seat. A tradition that has been passed down through the years. On Friday 10th February 2023, the SHS School Council finally presented a robust case for the purchase of the infamous golden toilet seat. This toilet seat is dedicated to all counsellors, past and present, and is an emblem of proof that at SHS the voices of students are heard and actioned!

Phonics Workshop

It was great to see parents at the school’s Phonics Workshop this term. This was an informal workshop held by Mrs Oliver and Miss King for parents and carers who would like to learn more about phonics and the school’s intervention program, Bug Club. There will be more workshops in the future, so watch this space!

House Games

OCongratulations Team Simmonds for winning this term’s House Games.
